3 Simple Steps to Look Slim, Svelte, and Sexy

3 Simple Steps to Look Slim, Svelte, and Sexy

By: Alex Harty

Be Svelte... Steps 1: Decide what you're main goal is
Be Svelte... My goal was to be 188. This would put me in the healthy range for BMI. I wanted something simple and measurable. You can do the same, but you may choose from a whole range of fitness measurements: waist-to-hip ratio, body fat percentage, a sports related goal like being able to play whole game without getting winded. I'll leave this up to your curiosity, think you can write it down (like actually pick up a Bic pen and write it on a blank piece of paper without procrastinating?) Good. You're doing great. Be Svelte!!
Be Svelte... Steps 2: Make a firm personal commitment of what you're willing to do "EVERYDAY" (with no exceptions)
Be Svelte... My firm commitment was to do at least 30 minutes of cardio that caused sweating everyday until I reached my goal. I did. It took a little under 6 months, but oh was it worth it. I know it sounds insane if you aren't working out at all or very little, but trust me, it gets easier the more you do it, almost automatic. You can choose anything you want, but it must be something that makes you sweat for a continuous period of time. Choose your time period, but I wouldn't do anything less than 15 minutes or else you're just kidding yourself. Pace yourself and you'll be fine. Be Svelte!!
Be Svelte... Steps 3: Tell Somebody And Get A Workout Partner
Be Svelte... I was lucky. I have my best friend who was coaxing me to workout, which was annoying when you are anti-exercise. Once I decided I was doing it, regardless if he was there or not, it became mine, I took ownership. If you are working out at home, make sure to tell significant loved ones that you see or talk to at least weekly. Ask them to check in with you every week or even more often to keep you accountable. Do this and you significantly increase you chance of being fit for life. Be Svelte!!

7 Tips for Staying Svelte During the Holidays

The holiday season is upon us and with this time of year comes an array of parties and events to attend, and any excuse, let's be honest, to cook up or, simply, eat those tasty holiday treats. Cookies, cake, pie galore! During this season we are tempted with so many decadent spreads of food. According to a study done by the National Institutes of Health the average weight person typically gains a pound over the holiday season. However overweight and obese people tend to gain five pounds during this time! The big problem is that most people don't lose the weight gained, thus the pounds obtained over the winter holidays accumulate year by year. This doesn't have to be YOU! Know that you can enjoy the holidays and maintain your weight and healthy habits. Yes, maintenance is the KEY word here. Don't look to lose weight over the holidays. Here are a few tips to keep you on track:
1. Eat regularly and avoid skipping meals. Skipping meals so you can indulge later typically backfires. You may end up over consuming more than normal and your desire to make healthy decisions goes out the door. Tip: eat a healthy snack or light meal before you go out so you don't overindulge at the party. Try to combine some protein with a complex carbohydrate and you may feel full longer. Think a small handful of nuts or a couple ounces of cheese and a fresh fruit. Or a peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole grain bread.
2. Balance your plate. For the party meal, think MyPlate guidelines: ½ of the plate should be non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, asparagus, Brussel sprouts or salad, ¼ of the plate can be from protein sources like grilled salmon, sauteed tofu or chicken breast and ¼ starch consisting of pasta, rice, sweet potatoes or bean salad. Add in one dessert, or small portions of several desserts, to make one serving. Think volume for the vegetables and portion control of the more decadent sides and desserts.
3. Don't drink your calories. We all love those holiday punches, ciders, cocktails and hot comforting drinks but know what is in your drink before overindulging. Always start the party off with water or a glass of seltzer. If you want to get or remain svelte, stick with water or seltzer! Egg Nog is one of the richest holiday drinks, containing 350 calories, 19 grams of fat and 22 grams of sugar per serving! CalorieKing (www.calorieking.com) is great website (and FREE app) for nutrition information on drinks and food.
4. Always keep healthy foods in your house so you eat well at home: fresh fruit and vegetables, hummus, whole grains, such as couscous, whole grain pasta and cereals, nuts and nut butters and popcorn.
5. Leave what you bring to parties at the party. One slice of pecan pie (4 ounces) has about 480 calories. Everyone eats pie on occasion but when you bring the leftovers home and have 4 additional slices (1920 calories) you could easily gain ½ pound.
6. Maintain your exercise routine to prevent weight gain and relieve holiday stress. Walking at a brisk pace just 20 minutes every day is beneficial.
7. Aim to maintain weight, not lose it. Enjoy the holiday season and the time you spend with with friends and family! You will get more enjoyment out of laughing with those you are closest to than indulging in unhealthy party foods. Do not let the buffet table become your focus.

Be Svelte, Wear a Belt!

Be Svelte, Wear a Belt !!

Be Svelte ... If a woman can't have enough shoes, then you might as well say that a woman can't have enough belts! The "belt" has become integrated into the fabric of our society and an essential fashion feature for almost any season. Women's belts not only serve function, but serves form as well. Women's belts can either be high fashion, a clothing necessity, or simply an outfit add-on. Some women even like to match their belts with the shoes they're wearing, as well as with the purse they're carrying. ---> Be Svelte !!

Be Svelte ...Belts can be worn different ways. High waist, low waist, sometimes even below the bust. If you are not careful with your choice of belts, you can very well highlight the body part that you are trying to mask or hide. If you're choosing the right kind of belt that suits your body type or outfit, you can also use the belt to make you look slimmer or make your outfit look more flattering. ---> Be Svelte !!

Be Svelte ...Can't think of anything to wear on your date tonight? Does the thought of wearing that perfect little black dress again, which you wore for 3 dates in a row makes you churn? Well, think again. Sometimes, all you need is a belt and you can turn something simple as your LBD into what seems to be a fresh, new, and carefully thought of outfit! Women's belts work wonders. ---> Be Svelte !!

Be Svelte ... There are many kinds of women's belts such as leather belts, studded belts, glittery belts, those with interchangeable buckles, belts made out of chains, belts wrapped in animal fur, feathers or what have you. If you are not a fan of detail, then you should consider buying yourself simple yet classic leather belts, and they come in different colors to go with any outfit. Some women even customize their own belts. Women's belts that have a lot of details can accentuate a simple outfit. This being said, you can definitely use belts as a form of palette for the fashion artist in you. Bedazzle, anyone. ---> Be Svelte !!

Be Svelte ... We all know by now that fashion is a form of self expression. What women wear usually say a lot about how they feel, what kind of a person they are, or how they want to be perceived. Just like any other clothing staple, the kind of belts that women wear can say a lot about their personality. Those who fancy studded belts with chains are most likely the rockstar types. The ones who prefer skinny, simple belts are sophisticated and the minimalists. And like I mentioned, those who prefer wearing classic leather belts are traditional types who probably cares more about function than fashion. ---> Be Svelte !!

Be Svelte ... For decades now, women's belts have truly been essential to any woman's wardrobe and will be for more to come. If you haven't experimented with belts, I suggest that you start doing so, because not only can you play up your personality but you can turn any wardrobe from blah and boring to sassy and classy. So ladies, be svelte and wear a belt. ---> Be Svelte !!
